Marion MacPhee

Marion MacPhee, born in 1979, is a graduate of the Edinburgh College of Art, class of 2001. Her captivating studies of whales and coastal landscapes stem from her expressive draughtsmanship, utilising etching and monotype techniques to create striking images that invite personal reflection on our connection to nature. Inspired by her travels to remote coastal environments, particularly the rugged islands of the North West of Scotland and Ireland, Marion's work embodies the raw energy and rich history of these unique landscapes.

Growing up on the Isle of Skye has profoundly influenced her artistic journey, as she begins her creative process with on-site sketches and photography, aiming to capture the essence and atmosphere of each place rather mere replication. In the development of images through the printing processes, uncertainty of outcome is always a factor and underpins the continuous development of her practice.
